Opeatostoma pseudodon Thorn Latirus Snail


The Thorn Latirus Snail ( Opeatostoma pseudodon ) is a brown snail with thin black stripes circling its shell although the shell may become encrusted by coralline algaes. The body of the snail is red and the thorn in its name is a long spine hat grows from the tip of the snail's opening. This spine is not venomous and is not a threat to tankmates. These snails are omnivores. While they will eat some algae, they also need meaty foods in their diet. They will eat detritus and leftover food i nthe aquarium but can also be target-fed meaty chunks or algae strips. Thorn Latirus are considered Reef Safe and are not known to feed on live corals and inverts.
