Otocinclus sp Dwarf Suckermouth Catfish
There are two commonly imported species of Otocinclus catfish, Otocinclus vestitus and O. mariae . They are often mixed together in shipment. There are also several other more uncommon varieties. These fish are characterized by a brown dorsal color, a horizontal black stripe running the length of the body, and an underslung, sucker-like mouth. They are very popular algae eating fish as they eat micro algae without damaging the leaves of aquarium plants. They are very small, only reaching a maximum of 2 inches. Otocinclus should be kept in small groups, but be sure to keep no more than than 2 per each 5 gallons, or they will run out of food. Some driftwood should also be provided as they will graze it for algae. Because of their small size care should be taken to avoid any predators that would make them a quick meal. They are peaceful and make one of the best housekeepers in a freshwater tank. This is a Restricted item and is not covered by our Arrive Alive 5 Day Guarantee.
